Project Runway All-Stars: We Have a Winner

Soooo, if you couldn’t get the hint from the title, this week was the finale of PR All-Stars Season 2 and I’m going to talk about who won. If you’re waiting to the weekend to catch up on your DVR and don’t want to know who that is, you might want to bow out now. But don’t forget to come back and read later :-)

Opening credits – side bar – I total forgot that Wendy Pepper was on this season. That seems like forever ago. Anuyway – the finale three – Anthony Ryan, Emilio and Uli

The Challenge: $3,000 and 4 days to create a mini-collection. They could choose the number of pieces they would make as well as the theme, music etc. for the show. The final 3 went back to the hotel to brainstorm and this is what they…stormed.

Uli titled hers “Winter Wonderland.” She knows her strong points – white dresses with lots of feathers and embellishments - so that’s what she’s going to do.

Emilio is going with “Urban Plantation” – inspired by working women in America namely Aunt Jemima and Rosie the Riveter.

Anthony Ryan wanted to find a balance between that dark and light place and is calling his “The Thin Line.”

The Workroom: Carolyn showed up in the workroom and everyone held their breath expecting a twist, but she just brought back the other designers so that the final 3 could pick a helper.

AR got to pick first since he won last week and chose Joshua WHO TURNED HIM DOWN!!!! Seriously?! That’s kind of harsh. Why did he come back at all. Maybe it was some sort of contractual obligation. Anyway, AR’s second pick was Kayne who seemed more than happy to help out.

Uli, for some unknown reason, picked Casanova. They have absolutely nothing in common design wise and sure enough, Casanova decided to take a nap instead of helping out. Then he explained why by saying “sewing is like having sex – you need to be in the mood.” Ummmm, ok. You’re creepy.

Emilio picked Althea because she made it to the finals during her season and they seemed to get along just fine.

Joanna came in to give her critique and I did that jump/jerk thing you do when you start to fall asleep because this episode is BORING! There was the usual spazzing out hours before the runway and I got to see a couple of dresser friends in the background chaos, so there’s that.

The Runway & Judging: Liv Tyler and Margherita Missoni were the guest judges and Carolyn seemed really over dressed.

Uli’s was very Uli. Georgina was amazed she pulled it off in 4 days. Liv and Margherita thought it was very ethereal and magical. Her make up was cool and I too wanted the furry vest. In the end, the judges thought they’d seen it before though and she was the 2nd runner up.

Emilio and his Urban Plantation went first. Georgina was thrilled that she finally got to see who Emilio is as a designer. Issac liked that he made a political statement and that his line had something to say. Liv liked the colors and the silhouette, but Margherita wasn’t so impressed. All thought it skewed a little junior at points and, ultimately, I think that was his downfall.

No big surprise, Anthony Ryan won. I mean didn’t we all see that one coming about a month ago?? His line was all clean lines and modern mod-dresses. The first one was stunning, the last one not so much. The judges agreed. I have mixed feelings about this. I really like AR and it was a bit of a do or die situation for him  he wins or he’s done because he doesn’t have the financial resources to go on. I just got tired of how predictable it all became.

So we wrap up another all star season. Next week we’re back with a collection of new designers for Project Runway teams. That should be interesting. At least hopefully.

Nothing surprising. I think they made the correct choice based on the mini-collections. Lifetime really has to work on their editing b/c I’m not sure I can survive another boring PR season. Bring on the Teams!
