‘Tis Better To Give

We all know the old adage, ’tis better to give than receive. The season for giving is fast approaching which means the season for shopping is, well, it’s here!! (Black Friday is barely a week away!!)

This year, as you are making your list and checking it twice, think about “giving” your local, small businesses a boost. Local boutiques, vendors and pop-up shops are a veritable treasure trove of unique, gifts – one of a kind pieces of jewelry, handmade bags or candles, new designers, photographers and artists – and they’re not hard to find, if you just look Google.

Just last Saturday, Laura G. and I swung by the 2nd Annual Shop for Love Holiday Shopping Soiree (thank you so much Kelly McCrae of Closet Junkie Boutique for the invite!) I’ll admit I wasn’t so good at the whole shop for others just yet, but in buying for myself, I got some really good ideas for gifts for others and I’m doing my part to help the economy. :-)  Here are a few pictures and vendors from the afternoon.

Consider skipping the mall and big chains and give the little guys/gals a chance. The Downtown Holiday Market is opening soon and small business owner (and friend) Valerie of Holland Cox reminded me that Small Business Saturday is coming up on the 24th.

And here are a few of my favorite boutiques in the area;

  • Covet
  • Violet Boutique
  • Rue 14
  • Zina Boutique
  • Lettie Gooch
  • Caramel
  • Jem | Lew – The Love Project
  • Just about everything at Eastern Market

Go forth and shop!
