We gonna party like it’s your birthday! …And by “your” I mean “my” and by “party,” I mean sit in an all-day (1 of 3) work-related training. Wooot woot! Oh yeah! Nothing screams “PAR-TAY!!!!“ like mock depositions! What can I say? I’m a wild and crazy girl!
WARNING – At this point I’m going to wander off into a cathartically, rambling paragraph(s). Today is one of those random posts that is really neither here nor there, but it’s my birthday, so my prerogative. Proceed accordingly.
I have mixed feelings about birthdays. On one hand, it’s a birthday! You get to say stuff like “but it’s my birthday so it’s my prerogative.” Who doesn’t love a day that’s all about you (even if only in your head)?! On the other, I’m the type that gets all introspective-y about another year passing; life as it is, as opposed to what I thought it would be; and I usually find myself ending the day teetering precariously on the brink of, yet another, existential crisis. Yes. I’m that girl.
Don’t get me wrong. I recognize that I have a pretty awesome life. I know I am very lucky and am thankful for all that I have, which brings me to my point. Yes, I have one. Sometimes it just takes me longer to get there and to be fair, I did warn you.
I spend a lot of time on Capital Style talking about things; buying things, wanting things, etc. Things, especially clothes, shoes and jewelry things, are awesome! They are some of my favorite things in the world, but recently, my coworker told me that this year, he is going to focus his spending on experiences rather than things.
Some prior birthday “experiences.”
I think this is a great idea! Last year I made a list of things I wanted for my birthday. This year, I’m also going to focus on experiences. So far on my list: fashion week, French lessons and travel to somewhere exotic. I’m thinking Africa. We’ll see what the year brings. For now here’s to possibilities and existential crises
