Skin Beauty Lounge Visit Revisited

Most of you are aware of my ongoing battle with technology. It doesn’t like me, but I thought my laptop and I had established a delicate detente - I won’t drop it and/or spill wine on it (again), and it won’t give me the blue screen of death. Under this agreement, we coexist in peace. Somewhere over the last few months, however, Joshua initiated a sneak attack taking out at least 4 of my posts (major props points to anyone who identify the Joshua reference).  I’m pretty sure this was around the time that I thought I could figure out how to write HTML code and repeatedly crashed my site, but I prefer to blame the machines).

Anyway, 3 of the post casualties were just fall trend topics and are no longer relevant, but 1 was on my media day visit to local day spa, Skin Beauty Lounge. Skin care is never irrelevant so I’m revamping and republishing this post.

Like I said, I attended a media day at the Skin Beauty Lounge back in October. It gave local bloggers and press a chance to tour the spa and meet the owner, Meka Mathis. The spa has been around for about 7 years, but Meka bought it and turned it into the lovely space it is about two years ago.

The spa offers a full range of services (check them out here and the April promotions here), but is especially known for its waxing. Beach season is fast approaching and according to Meka, the Brazilian wax “will change your life!”

I didn’t get that kind of wax, but Skin Beauty Lounge was gracious enough to offer attendees a complimentary service. I got an eyebrow wax with Roxanne who was absolutely fantastic! It’s not often you are complimented on your eyebrows, but I was later that day when I was shopping. I’m kicking myself for not taking a picture.

I was blessed with a natural abundance of melanin and consequently, haven’t had to deal with the challenge of self-tanners or spray tans. For those of you on the hunt for a pre-beach glow, Skin Beauty Lounge’s spray tan service was featured in InStyle Magazine. The spa also has been featured in Lucky, Essence and Sheen Magazine.

As silly as this may sound, one of my favorite things are SBL’s hours. The spa caters to working women with late hours on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and opening at 8:00am on Friday mornings. Not everyone can duck out at lunch or gets off at 5:00.

“Skin Beauty Lounge is more than a spa. It’s an experience. We provide quality services and products to our clientele at an exceptional value and ambience. We love keeping DC beautiful.” – Meka Mathis

I can’t believe we never talked about this place—it’s my go to for waxing. Awesome Service and Meka is the best.
