Sunday Funday: Brunch and DIY Collars

Yesterday, I spent a lovely day with a group of fellow D.C. bloggers. We started with brunch at Bus Boys and Poets where we amused (confused?) other patrons by taking pictures of each other, our food and the restaurant in general.

I need to work on the exposure, but you get the idea.Emily Kate HargroveAshley, La Belle Vie; Victoria, Curious Chase; Kate, Go Kate Shoot

Next up – Drop by & DIY at Studio 85 for a little collar decorating action. They provided the shirts/collars, studs, jewels, sequins, glitter, etc. and told us to have at it. Katherine captured it perfectly when she said it was like the crafting birthday parties you had as a kid. So fun!

I’ve mentioned detachable collars before and how much I love them. They are an extremely easy DIY, as well as an extremely easy way to add a little je ne se qua to a look. Simply take an old shirt (or find collared shirts at a thrift store) and cut off the collar below the stitching. You can cut off a little extra material if you want to fold it over and sew it for a clean line. Then…for lack of a better word, bedazzle! See, I told you it was easy.

I chose a navy blue shirt and added rows of gold studs. I found this gold pin in my jewelry box and added it to the closure.

You can also find shirts with fun patterns or material that don’t need additional embellishment. I think this one is cute as is with the embroidered flowers. I’m going to try to find a cameo or a jeweled brooch to add to the closure.

If the detachable collar is a bit much for you, how about simply embellishing the collar of a shirt? Waverly did white on white.

Ladies, I want to see your finished products!

A big thanks to Kiah Leigh of Drop by & DIY and the ladies of Studio 85 for hosting.

Your collar looks amazing! And this post cleared up my question about if you had to make the collar before you could bedazzle it! When we do my style makeover in Feb. if we also do a little closet overhaul we can probably find quite a collection of collars for bedazzling!
